TSG Visit Helps Breakdown Young Peoples Perceptions
The pupils at Nightingale Community Academy had an afternoon of workshops and scenario role plays delivered by the Territorial Support Group (TSG). These were delivered to break down the preconceived perceptions of the work the Police do and why they do it. The TSG also work as part of Operation Viper so some of the workshops covered how they go about tackling incidents involving firearms and what they look for and what protocol they follow. Other exercises included Stop and Search with body-worn video, the reasoning behind stop and search were explained and why the officers now wear a body-worn video camera. The pupils had the chance to try out the full protective uniform which is used in situations such as riots and were also shown how they defend in these scenarios.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and were thankful for the opportunity and the time given by the officers. Many left looking at the Police in a new light and some enjoyed it to the point that the were considering they might like a career in the TSG themselves. |
