JOHN POWELL is the Scheme Director, and Met-Track is his brainchild. John is a Superintendent with the Met but, in his spare time, he is a sprints coach, and has been since 1976!
In combining his professional
and part-time role, Met-Track was born. As Operations Commander in Bexley
Borough, John was able to quickly set up a pilot scheme in 2005, and it was immensely
successful. During her visit to the borough later in the year,
Her Majesty
The Queen agreed
to present awards to local youngsters who had taken part in Met-Track,
and the scheme has since gone from strength to strength.
It expanded into neighbouring Greenwich in 2006, and has since began spreading out
into other boroughs. There is now an extensive planning process that involves expansion right across London.
JASON HUSSAIN is the Scheme Manager, and is a former British International athlete himself. Coached by John, Jason showed a flare for working with young people right from the off, and soon found himself helping to run the scheme as it outgrew John's capabilities of Managing single-handed.
Jason manages the day-to-day operations of the scheme, and works now for the Met
part-time in the role, a perfect combination that ensures the scheme is properly
supported, and also allows him to keep to John's rigorous training programme that
sees him on the track or in the gym up to eleven times every week!
Jason is the main point of contact for enquiries about the scheme and can be contacted
