On our marks and set to go!
Met-Track Chair of Trustees, Chris' Snode, writes... It's been a long time since we were helping hundreds of vulnerable young Londoners improve their life chances, but we're still here, we haven't gone away, and we're set to restart Met-Track as soon as circumstances permit. As one of London's most successful youth diversion schemes, we've had to suspend our work across the Capital since lockdown in March, but we are on our marks and set to go as soon as we get the green light from the Government and the city's schools! Current Government Covid-19 guidance prevents anyone other than staff or pupils to enter school premises. |
CEO John Powell MBE, and Operations Manager Matthew Threadgold have both been furloughed since April to ensure our charity's funding is protected for as long as possible. The National Lottery had already stated that they will not be able to support us any further, and so we are having to turn to other sources of funding. Once John and Matt are back in the saddle they will be able to add to the funding bids I have already compiled and submitted on the charity's behalf, and they will be looking to capitalise on some really exciting new schemes that were in the early planning stages when we were forced to close.
Whilst we have been a hugely effective project since our founding in 2005, however, we will not look to return on half throttle. We need to ensure that our current means are used to maximum effect. Therefore if we have to wait until later than the second half of this academic term before we return to action, that is what we will do if it is in the longer term interests of the project. I will ensure this website is now updated with any developments as and when decisions are taken. Meanwhile, our sincerest thanks to all the schools and many individuals who have voiced their frustration at our absence - we very much hope to be working with you again very soon.
For the time being any enquiries regarding Met-Track should be routed through me at chrissnode@me.com
Met-Track CEO, John Powell MBE, a retired London Police Superintendent, who founded Met-Track whilst serving as Operations lead in Bexley in 2005, has expressed his profound shock at the shooting of a Police Officer on duty in a Croydon Custody Centre. he said: "Anyone who is or ever has been a member of the Policing family will be in deep shock as I am at this incident, and thoughts have to be with the officer's family and colleagues. Its a serious reality check on the everyday risks officers expose themselves to on all our behalfs every hour of every day."
