Met-Track goes GlobalMet-Track has inspired a London detective to suspend his career and travel the globe, inspiring young people from Europe to Asia, Australia to South America, on the virtues of sport as a means toward a positive future.
So impressed was Julian Seal with the virtues of the London-based scheme, he decided he wanted to spread the word to young people the world over, and has just returned from a two-and-a-half year trip he has aptly labelled 'Sports Trek'. He equipped a self-purchased Land Rover with all the supplies and equipment he needed, and set off in 2012, returning last year, having seen some of the most amazing cross-sections of the world's communities imaginable. "His experiences would write a book," enthused Met-Track Scheme Director, John Powell, "but to think that the Met-Track concept has been preached across four of five continents, set against the background of the London 2012 Olympics, and the prospect of Rio 2016, is nothing short of amazing." Julian's experiences are further documented here in an except from a letter recently written to Lord Sebastian Coe, who supplied him with a signed London 2012 football before his departure, and who, he hopes, might provide further support for a venture into the fifth continent, Africa, in the not-too-distant future. "Talking to Julian, I just wished if only some of our young communities in London could experience some of what he has seen in the last couple of years, they would then realise just how lucky they are!". |
